Easy Way To Check Toyota IQ AC Error Codes

Introduction

Is your Toyota IQ's AC acting up? Diagnosing the problem doesn't have to be complicated. In this post, we'll walk you through the easy steps to check your Toyota IQ's AC error codes. Whether you're a seasoned DIYer or a car maintenance newbie, this guide will help you identify issues quickly and efficiently, so you can stay cool on the road. Let's dive in and get your AC back in top shape!

Determine Your Toyota IQ Model

First, try to determine the type of Toyota IQ you have. The method differs between IQ, IQ2 and IQ3 etc. The easiest way to do this is the look in the vehicle's logbook at the model name.

If you don't have that option simply look at the climate control cluster. If it looks like this then you can use the "Button Test" method as well as the "Toyota Techstream" method:

If you have a climate control cluster that looks like this then unfortunately you will have to use "Toyota Techstream" or a good diagnostics tool to determine AC error codes on your vehicle. The button test will not work:

For the button based test I have included two guides below. The first being a video guide for those who prefer to watch. The second one a text guide if you prefer.

With the car OFF hold the "Auto" button and the "Recirculate" button.

AC Cluster Button Combination

While still holding the button turn the ignition to position "2". For button start vehicles this means pressing the start button twice. For a manual start, vehicles turn the key twice.

Once you are in position two the screen and buttons on the climate control instrument panel will start flashing away, it will do this five times. Keep the buttons pressed until the five flashes are complete.

At this point you should be presented with error code numbers, in my case I was left with fault code 79, before this I also had 23 however this was corrected with a re-gas of the refrigerant.

If you do get 23 like me (with or without any additional codes) at all it might be worth getting the car re-gassed and checked for leaks using UV. My understanding is that with certain codes present the magnetic clutch on the compressor may fail to engage so it's best to be working with as few codes as possible.

If you get "00" prompt when performing the button test this means you have no errors (lucky you):

I don't have access to Toyota Techstream so this section is yet to be populated. I still have my IQ and have recently bought a Yaris so I might invest in the software at some point in the future. If you have any information/guide to add here please contact me.

Error Codes List

Below is a list of possible error codes on the IQ and the cause:

Hopefully the guide has been useful in identifying any codes responsible for your car's AC not working. I have many more articles on the website discussing fixes for the error codes so please do have a search for them.

There is also plenty of information regarding Toyota IQ AC issues on the Toyota Owners Club website. A lot of the information documented here is a collation of that material.
